How to Choose the Perfect White Paint

White homes, walls, and neutrals in general are all the rage right now and I don’t see this “trend” going anywhere soon. If you are wanting to jump on the bandwagon but are intimidated I am here to help.

I mean it’s white paint, how are there so many choices?? Even though one thinks they are all the same, they most definitely are not. Some whites pull cool while others pull warm. If your space has warm tones incorporated into it like natural woods, warm textures, leather, woven baskets etc, I would suggest choosing a warm white.

Some examples of warm whites are

  • White Dove by Benjamin Moore
  • White Heat by Dunn Edwards
  • Wimborne White by Farrow & Ball

However it isn’t always that simple. If the rest of your space is all earth tones like the furniture, textiles, decor or it lacks natural light I would choose a neutral color white to balance out the warmth. Your space can start looking very yellow. A great neutral white is Milk Glass by Dunn Edwards.

If your space is on the cool end and are working with more greys, blues, then you will want a brighter clean white. These tones pull more modern, bright, and fresh. A lot of people will choose these paints for kitchens and bathrooms.

Examples of cool whites are

  • Decorator’s White by Benjamin Moore
  • Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore
  • Cool December by Dunn Edwards

These will all have undertones of blues, greens, and greys. They are great to use in areas of your home that don’t get a lot of natural light. The artificial light won’t affect the cool paints like they do the warm.

I hope this helps you choose the perfect white paint for your next project. Be confident in your choice + your design, and if not, remember it’s only paint.
